For those of you In The Know......

Can I find a reel slot machine in the bowels of one of our Reno beloved? Something old, perhaps a handle, the years of broken dreams upon it's exterior?

Of course, my thought drifts to Cal-Neva.

Our January trip includes a newbie who wants something "not so electronically".

Ideas?

Hi Zydeco,

The Cal Neva still has lots of "Reel" machines though not the completely mechanical type. But you'll still find real reels (with handles) there and at many other casinos.

I've heard reports that the last completely mechanical slots like these... http://antiqueslotmachine.blogspot.ca/2012/03/jennings-butterfly-revamp-by-jenny.html were removed from a Lake Tahoe casino about ten years ago.

Anybody else know where to find an old Jennings or other mechanical slot? Virginia City maybe?

I go to Laughlin every dec, for a let it ride tourn. and have found
some of the old 1$ reels that still take and payout tokens at the
Pioneer next to the nugget, on the main drag. Play them for hrs,
love the noise!

I have not posted here for a long time but I visit here often. I have visited Reno every July since 1998. Having said that, CircusCircus has 25 cent and dollar reel machines by the cashier's cage and Security desk. You can use quarters and dollar tokens or bills and it pays out in coin. Last year I had a blast playing on a $20 bill for about two hours going from machine to machine playing what I had and taking the winnings to the next machine. I finally lost it all and went back to the Black Jack table and lost my shirt as usual. I love Reno. 267 days to go.

Hi! As some of the others have mentioned, mechanicals not so much, but there's still a vast array of traditional reels on the corridor. Be sure to check out the area that jimc mentioned in the Circus Circus, not only do the machines here still drop coins, but seem incredibly loose in comparison to those in other areas of the casino. There's a kiosk of 6 $1 Double Ten Times Pay progressives here, in addition to the Home Run and Double/Triple Diamond series. The Cal Neva also has their own brand of $1 machines, complete with Cal Neva logos, trains, donkeys, and cactus plants. I'm guessing they hit quite frequently because they're $3 a pull, yet the top progressive never seems to get above $100 or so. Not sure if any still drop coins over there, though.

Great to see there's still traditional reel players out there! Have fun, and don't forget to grab a coin cup...

The Cal-Neva does have coin-drop machines over in the hotel lobby across the street from the main casino.... also, if you've got a car, truck it over to Tahoe and hit the Montebleu for the Sigma Derby machines - oooooo-weeee! Those are a blast to play!!
