Of course that big ole sign would look it's best at night. It probably had more flashing lights than this .... but I got tired.

That's it, Dave, breathe new life into the Reno of yore! Make it live again!
And as for those tales of the good ol' days, Jevanoff, keep 'em coming. Where the heck have you been? Don't be fooled into spending time on those other Reno-related message boards; this is the one that will eat up your anecdotes with the ferocity of all-night gamblers at a comped breakfast buffet. |

Stan, I think you just failed to recognize the name. "John Evanoff's Nevada" has been hiding for years on VisitReno's home page. Under the "Popular Pages" heading. But you're right on this count - these posts have been his first on the VisitReno board. |

Oh, right; I did read those entries; I just didn't recall hearing the salacious stories of film crews and drunk-all-night movie stars - that's where the action is! |

Thanks Stan. Yes, I hope we hear more from Mr. Evanoff on the board. I appreciate your kind comments on my old Reno restoration projects. |

I found a pic of the Palace Club at night and it looks like I got the colors a little off.
Palace Club True Colors .......... This site has quite a few good oldies.
Next time I'm feeling ambitious I'll amend my rendition. |

That was a great old picture of the Palace on the corner at night. Notice the Turf Club next door on the right of it? Used to play the horses and talk with the bartender there when I worked at Harolds Club in 1977. As for messaging on this board, I've been really busy for the last couple years and just retired to a beautiful country club in Palm Desert where I play as much golf as I can, like at least twice a week. It got up to 80 degrees today and the greens were running really fast. I do miss going to Pyramid Lake and fishing the cutthroat, but I don't miss the cold; especially standing waste deep in the water there and having to shovel out of my garage just to get to the driveway at my old house well above Reno (5,535 feet of elevation) on the northeast side of Peavine. |

Thanks Mr E.! There's a few others like me, on the board, who'd love to read more of your reflections on Reno's glory days. Sounds like you have a goldmine full of them. You must have some great photo albums. Hope you can post some of your pictures sometime.
You worked at Harold's Club! Were you there during the before Howard Hughes bought it? I first saw Harold's in 1985 and became quite attached to that place. I've got Harold S Smith Sr's book too - read it twice. (Thanks to J.M., I have a pretty special copy of it.)
I envy you your new digs in Palm Desert. We Canadians don't have a warm spot to move to when we retire - just milder wet ones. |
