spdmrcht, I doubt the Street Vibrations incident had anything to do with the decision to close Trader Dick's. The City of Sparks is the entity that over reacted to that by kicking the event off the city streets and into the Nugget parking lot. Neither the vendors or attendees reacted well to that situation. Last year, the vendors had little interest in the Sparks venue, and at the last minute the venue was closed. This year, the spring rally will be held in downtown Reno.

It seems the prime motivation for bringing Gilley's Saloon into the Nugget is financial. Gilley's has been very successfull in it's 3 other locations and the Nugget management is hoping to cash in on that fame. Here's an article from KOLO News Channel 8 website about Gilley's.

Well, I am sorry to see it go. I have to admit that it has been years since I have dined there, but it sure brings back memories.

I remember as a little kid going with all my Reno relatives to Trader Dicks. It was one of my favorite places to go. I loved the theme. This was back in the late 50's early 60's.........Am I really that old?

I think there is a large component of demographics in the selling/remodeling/closing of the old joints.

As a regular at the Comstock, I was invited to a VIP event that included the Tyson/Hollyfield fight ('97) on a big screen at the Riverboat. I remember telling the Comstock GM how the Riverboat better get some new blood in their top tier club because few of them look like they'll be around in five years.

So their customers died, then the casino did. Same with the Comstock, Pioneer, Flamingo, Silver Club, Fitzgerald's and now JA Nugget. Ya ya...no obit for the Nugget yet. But times change.

I LOVED playing craps with the old guys at JA Nugget (with the WHITE $ 100 chips). But kids would rather drop $ 1000 on a smart phone than play at the tables.

Oh well, MORE FOR ME!

Passion Fruit Cocktail. Wife had two one night ..... soo much for Dinner.

Steppin Out Package about $20 Dinner and 2 Show Tickets!

All of the Nugget Restaurants were outstanding. Then...... even the Farm House turned to S*%t.

Craps $100 Chips only a dream here! I do remember the Yellow Dollar Ships and nights winning a few Hundred on there Tables.

Dang this getting old sucks!

All other $ 100 chips (that I know of) are black. But JA Nugget's (last I played) not only were white, but had a metal coin inserted in the center. Must have been expensive to make...or counterfeit.

In my memorabilia pile, I have my PAPER, JA Nugget (and Comstock) tracking card...only for the pit when they tracked everything by hand.

I suppose it's just a matter of time for them to change all other memorable themes at every old time casino. But when they drop that great clam chowder, JA Nugget will have a hard time getting me back in there. I expect a name change, theme remodel, followed by a bankruptcy over the next several years.
