Janice and I moved to the interior of BC back in early October. We did our first trip to the USA by car on Wednesday. Shopped at Walmart, Dollar Tree and Big 5 Sports. We also stopped at the Okanogan Bingo Casino (it's one of four casinos run by the Colville Tribe).

We signed up for the players card and each of us were promptly issued $10 freeplay. The place is very basic. Just rows and rows of slots. (Once again I'll mention that these are not slots with a Nevada style random number generator. They are programmed with certain number of wins and losses per several thousand spins). But, it's pretty easy to ignore that - they look like regular Nevada video slots and the odds don't seem to be much worse than that found in any Reno casino. So we played our freeplay and another $20. Janice stopped $10 ahead and I stopped $10 down.

I feel bad calling it an ultra inferior place - we had fun there, the staff were very friendly and helpful, but by Nevada standards it's very, very basic. However, a new facility is being built just a mile or two up the road. It will have better restaurants and a small hotel. They plan move there in early spring next year.

We find stopping at places like this placates our need to be in Reno for a short while. Once you sit down in front of a machine with your drink and Swisher Sweet you can almost convince yourself you're in the CalNeva.

We didn't take any pictures but here's a link to a rather poor quality Google street view image.

Well, don't get *too* comfortable with those places!

It just ain't the same...I remember trying out an Indian casino in Florida, just because it was there, but ......meh, with a capital "M".

Only Reno comes with John, Charlie and Higgins. So all other places will just never measure up.

It sure looks like a bare bones gambling place. Even the website doesn't give off much excitement.

The website depicts the casino honestly. It doesn't hype it up at all. Perhaps that's, at least, refreshing. Rolling Eyes

The most interesting part of the web site are the photos that cycle in the main page. The guy with the blond Mohawk and wearing what looks like the top part of a jail suit seems to be in most of the pictures, playing cards and then having a foo-foo drink. It looks like it all turns out OK for the parolee. It appears he got a job at the casino serving up gourmet dining offerings. They even gave him a snazzy looking outfit for the job.

CaSwede, you get double points for noticing that. It's a pretty dull website but the blonde mohawk-haircut, jail-suit guy does stand out somewhat. Glad they gave him a job - looks like a nice guy ... deserves a second chance.

Years back (I'm saying that far too often these days) I went to one of the other Colville tribe casinos - The Mill Bay Casino at Lake Chelan, Washington. I guess it was mid-nineties that I first drove down there. They were operating pretty much illegally but the authorities were allowing the operation rather than causing an incident. They had what appeared to be, second hand Nevada style physical reel slots, some video poker and a few tables. There was no bar. I asked about that and was told that there was too much of a drinking problem on the reservation. The casino building was just a bunch of mobile units pushed together. I tried the dinner buffet - very small and very good - Awesome salmon!

I haven't been there for along time. If you Google image search Mill Bay Casino you'll see that they've rebuilt since I was there. The whole casino was (or maybe still) is in a very large inflated tent. Pretty unique. I'm not sure if that is it's present configuration or not.
