Yeah, I used to be 'top dog' before I fell off the VisitReno map. Now I lag behind by a few hundred. Kinda like my "betting funds'. I always seem to be a few hundred short.

Well, congratulations on the big number contributions Stan. I have enjoyed your posts over the years and your philosophy of --- why use a ten cent word when I can fit in a twenty five cent word? However, I will not accuse you of Pleonasm or even garrulousness or loquaciousness.

You have a new goal now of surpassing Dave.

I looked and I have over 700 posts. I can not imagine I have had that much to say. I think only 10 of those had information of any value.

Jerry and I are close in numbers, even though he took a long nap from postings.

Thanks, Mammoth, I'll try to check in more often.
If I am ahead of Swede in posts, it's the only time I've gotten ahead of him in Anything! And, Swede, I always enjoy your (worthwhile) posts. As I do most everyone on here.

After getting back, I am even starting to miss John...

While we wait for the man of the hour (Stan) to accept his esteemed award and the acceptance speech I will mention a Jerry story. Jerry met up with me and two of my long time gambling buddies in Laughlin. I had a $100 dinner coupon to burn among the four of us. Jerry said he would be the CFO to make sure we got maximum use of the coupon without going over. Without pencil or paper he kept track of our orders and the tally. I asked Jerry if a glass of wine was possible... "keep it under $8" was the reply. When the bill came, I was amazed to see it was something like $99.50. I was amazed at his accounting skills. I think Jerry was not feeling to well on that trip. He drove from home all the way to Las Vegas and arrived late. Not having a free room in Vegas he decided to sleep in his car at a casino parking lot. He was awaken in the wee hours by a loud tap on the window and a flashlight beam in his face. It was security and they told him to get moving. I think maybe he just drove the rest of the way to Laughlin way short on sleep and rest.

Stick it to the man, Jerry!

I'm with you 100% Jerry! Vegas can shove it! I might gamble there, but I park in Laughlin.

I have made the drive to LV more than once when too sick to drive.
Once, In January, we got booted out of our campground at dark. Both of us were very ill with the flu. We had to fill with both propane and gasoline. It was single digit temps.
I started driving and stopped in every town, checking temps. ALL single digits. We kept going to north LV, pulled into Walmart. I bought medicine for my wife who spent the entire journey in bed.
Security approached and offered to let us park there overnight. But I declined and continued to Railroad Pass and cruised the lot several times before finding a spot about 5 am to catch a few winks.

Maybe that is the trip Swede is referring to. His memory is much better than mine as he is a "young man". (You're welcome, Swede. Everything is "relative".)

Funny story. Thanks for the telling. We need to do it again next winter when you have another fistful of "freebies". Smile

Goodness, I missed this whole thread?! Dang it, who's in charge here?

Okay, well, anyway, my acceptance speech: This is indeed a serendipitous occasion! I could never have imagined, upon stumbling on this site so many years ago, that I would wind up crossing this milestone. Hifalutin phraseology notwithstanding, I've had a great time virtually visiting Reno with everyone here, and I couldn't be more grateful to you and my team, including my hairdresser, my bartender, and my speechwriter, who.....oh, wait, he quit. Guess that's the end of my speech!

Thanks again, y'all - it's been an absolute delight, and I look forward to my next thousand posts!

Stan I am glad to see you made it to your own party. The acceptance speech was very much like the Gettysburg Address---- short and to the point.

Jerry, if I knew how bad your memory was, I would have embellished the story even more. Laughlin is now off my visit list. My buddy from Flagstaff hit a serious financial problem and the video poker has gone to hell...like most other places.

Good speech, Stan. You can let that speech-writer go. Your talents with verbiage are well known and admired here. Welcome to the stratosphere!

So, who will be the next 1000-aire?

The "Hawk" has 508 posts and Jerry has 735. That totals 1243. Of course, there's no good reason to add these two guys' posts up ..... I'm just adding another digit to my "score".

Swede, I loved the story. But, honestly, I don't even remember meeting you guys. Are you sure that was me? Smile So embellish away..
Another birthday soon; if my memory gets worse, I'll be in serious trouble.

I just finished playing 7 softball games (played every inning: 49) in 50 hours. I now cannot move my body, except to replace the ice-packs. The fingers barely work the keyboard.

And, Swede, I agree about Laughlin. I winter near there but seldom went last winter. The VP does suck big-time. Free rooms are about the only incentive and they are nothing special.

Yah, your right. But still beats the hell out of the Strip!

Well, my ego just took a major hit. My magnetic personality evidently did not make an imprint in Jerry's brain. Sad This trip was late March 2010. I did find a trip report that you posted and mention about being sick in Laughlin and meeting. http://visitreno.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1138

This was a second meeting for us in Laughlin. I even found the report of meeting up with you by chance on a previous trip.
