Back in the 1990s Reno was my wife and mine destination for fun. By fun I mean drinking, eating too much and other debauchery. It has been sad to me to see it change. As we approach our 60s we have aged out of most of what was once the draw. But I have so many fond memories from each of the now shuttered downtown casinos.
So we found ourselves making a driving trip from our current home in Las Vegas to see the grandkids in Washington State. On the way back we stopped in Reno. We planned one night, but it was so hot we spent 2. Stayed at the Sands, oops I mean J Resort. Very nice room for $82/night all in. The casino was dead but it was Monday and Tuesday. I mean DEAD. One black jack table going. Walked around to the other 4 casinos. All dead and depressing. So many tweakers in Cal Neva. Heard one on his phone tell someone “I’m down to smoke meth anytime but it’s not my favorite “. Ate at Top Deck twice. It was ok. Ate at Brew Brothers once. It was overpriced and so so. Basically there is no reason to go to downtown Reno. I will say I felt safer than the last time we passed through there during the pandemic. |
