We are headed to Reno for our annual "support Reno by leaving your bankroll here" ritual Smile on the 16th of October.

Anyone help us with Silver Strike locations at this time? We have heard that those machines are slowly going away so want to grab a few when we are down there.

We will be staying at the El Dorado but will have a car for 1 day so can drive wherever to get some Silver Strikes.

Any help would be most appreciated !

I know for sure the Peppermill has one machine. It's located at the far south end of the casino in the corridor that leads to hotel check in.

I've seen others in town, but can't seem to remember who has them. Just think of all the fun you'll have looking for them.

I could have sworn hearing elsewhere that there was one at the Cal-Neva - or did I see it myself? Boy, it's getting harder to separate actual memories from dreamt-up stuff...in any case, this may have been a story of one that was there, and was subsequently removed, but check the North building of Cal-Neva, ground floor, right around the alley entrance area.

If you're interested in a little side-trip you might try some of the antique shops. There's one at First and Sierra and several on S. Virginia between downtown and the Peppermill. It's somewhat hit or miss, but some of the kiosks have old chips and silver strikes that you can buy. You lose the satisfaction of saying "I won it myself," but sometimes it's cheaper just to buy one than to try to win one. And if you don't find a token you like there's still lots of other "stuff" to see.

I just got back from the Pep and noticed the silver strike mentioned in my last post is gone. It was in the way of the construction, so they had to move it. I don't know where it is or if it's coming back. They're working on the skywalk from the garage to the hotel. Should be done by late fall, and it's quite a mess right now.

First of all I am alive and well. Just haven't been active on this message board. But , if I remember right, there is one on the top of the escelators at the Fitz. I remember because everytime I passed by it this past summer, somebody was chucking money in it and not getting a thing and I wanted to try it.

Thanks for the info, I'll be looking for them on my upcoming trip. I have also heard they are disappearing.

Just outta curiousity, does anyone know how much the silver strikes are worth?

I found a machine at Sam's Town in Vegas a few weeks back, hit the bonus, and got 40 quarters and a limited edition silver strike/$10 gaming token, .999 fine silver with gold edges.

Somebody at the casino told me that it wasn't worth much but a friend here in town who specializes in coins told me it could be worth $250.

Anybody know?

They are always worth face value. They are also worth Silver value and they are worth collectible value. If you look on EBay they are also worth EBay value which = whatever people are willing to pay for them. As the strikes go away they become more valuable as far as collecting. If they are limited editions they have more value than those that were regular runs. Some even have errors on them just like coins do and those become extremely valuable. Hope this makes things as clear as mud for you Very Happy

Thanks Maggie for all the info! I don't know much about them (this is my first one) so this is all good to know. I'm an eBay PowerSeller too, so I'll definitely look next time I'm there to get the lowdown on what they're worth.

Something is telling me I might hold onto this one.

Thanks again and best of luck on your trip.

I haven't been to Reno since the 4th of July, however there were at least 3 Silver Strikes at Cal Neva One is on the upper level where the Poker Room is right by the elevator. Go up the long escelator and go toward the Sports Book and it will be on the left by the elevator. The other two are in the North Casino on the first floor one by the alley as mentioned in an eariler post, and the other on the other side of that Casino close to the street. However one of these pays in Silver Eagles and not the old Silver Dollars so be sure to look before you play if you want the old Silver. I once won a couple and didn't realize it paid the Eagles, so I am more careful now. You could probably buy them cheaper but it is a lot of fun to drop a few quarters and hit a few. Back in 1998 we were in C.C. and they had a Silver Strike that had a machine that had 3 CCs for a jackpot where they actually paid you a Uncirculated Carson City Silver Dollar in a presenation. We about went broke playing but the wife finally hit it. Luckily we stopped by Tahoe on the way home and hit a hot Crap table so we came home with the Silver and our money back. One of our better trips.
Best of luck to all.

I collect these silver strikes as well. Right now have about 35-40 of them.

For those flying into Reno, they have several of these machines at the airport.

I would like to thank everyone for their responses.

We made our trip to Reno on the 16th and when we returned home on the 20th we had accumulated 35 new Silver Strikes.

We found them:

The airport has 4 machines .. 2 in the lobby and the other 2 on the concourses where you must have tickets to access them.

The Sands -- 1 machine near the registration desk

The Peppermill - 1 machine near the coffee shop

Atlantis - 1 machine near the gift shop

The Silver Legacy - 2 machines .. 1 near the bottom of the escalator coming from Circus Circus and the other at the bottom of the escalator coming from El Dorado

We drove out to Sierra Sids where they also have 2 machines.

We went to Virginia City where there is 1 machine located inside of The Delta Saloon

There is also one in Verdi at The Gold Ranch but we didn't get there.

There are no Silver Strike machines in Cal Neva ... what they do have are called Silver Mine Machines. These machines dispense old Silver Dollars.

As I mentioned in my original post, these machines are going away in Reno which is a shame in one way - but on the other hand, those that we have accumulated over the years are becoming more and more valuable. The collectibility value on some of these has skyrocketed recently.

We have some from the original Silver Strike machines in casinos that don't exist any more ... Harolds Club, Nevada Club, Flamingo etc. We also have $40 strikes from all the original issues.

Anyway .. it was a great trip and super Strike hunt .. thanks again for all the input.
