Saturday's RGJ reports that Fitzgerald's has been sold for the third or fourth time, and this time it looks like the sale will go through. The buyer is a subsidiary of the company that is condominimizing the former Golden Phoenix.

It is expected to take several months to work out the details, and during that time the current management plans to continue with no major changes. In the long run, however, the new owners say they intend to change every phase of the operation. They are talking about an upscale, "boutique" casino but haven't come up with any specifics so far. From the quotes in the paper, it sounds like they view this as a way to get some control of the neighborhood in order to protect and enhance their investment in the condo project.

Time will tell.

I hope whoever buys the Fitz won't change it too much. It's been our "home away from home" for 3 years now and have always had a great time there. I also hope they keep the current staff members as well, as they are so friendly and know how to make their guests feel welcome.

I agree with PEB, I don't want to see too many changes, especially in their player's card rewards, however, the place could take an influx of remodel money.

I am nervous about the new owners judgment, building condos during a downtown in the housing market....

I am also worried about what will happen to the Fitz when the sale goes through. It is also our home away from home in Reno and we always have a good time there. It is close to everything without the hype of the bigger clubs. I think I will make a reservation soon before anything happens. Laughing Barb

I for one am a little bummed about the changes at fitzgeralds, It has always been my favorite place to stay. 2 weeks ago we stayed at the peppermill before flying out to aruba, could not win anything anywhere in that place, but the coors light was free so what the heck. Going back next week for 4 nights, staying at the grand sierra but only because my wife is taking a 2 day class and her job is paying for everything. We have already won because at .50 cents a mile travel from so oregon thats 300 $ right there. maybe I will quit while I am ahead.lol

ps where is jerry these days.?

I just hope that the folks that bought the Fitz are not nitwits. The last thing the Downtown Area needs is another Condo Project. They turn that place into a Condo, that action very well mean the end of my Reno Gambling trips. Anyway, I sure hope not!

If Fitzgerald's goes dark, it will be terrible. The thought of no casinos underneath the Reno Arch would be too much for me to bear. The Reno City Fathers might be wise to move the Arch up between the Eldorado and Silver Legacy.

I can see that this sale might be the end of Fitz as we know and love it. If the new owners are trying to protect the investment in the condos behind it, it makes me think that they are not "casino people" and really want to maintain their condos value, even if it is at the expense of Fitz. I would think that a near empty machine only casino might be just fine with them, with the upper levels changed to be condos.

If the condos don't get occupied in the manner which will keep it profitable, I don't like to think of the possible implications to the downtown real estate scene.

It is nice to be missed. I may have some news soon though.

We homeless types don't get to a computer much. Besides, this is softball season and one must establish and maintain their priorities.

Well last friday my family and I met up with jerry at the fitz, he looks great as usual, spent 3 days down in reno at the grand sierra, but having the girls with us and my wife in class did not do much gaming.
But the girls had a blast gocarts mini golf, arcade.
My wife was feeling sorry for me so when they went to the mall I went to bullys, spent more there than at the gs, but the mugs of coors light were free. Twisted Evil
