For my money you can't beat Mahoney's Silver Nugget in North Las Vegas. We might have been the only people in the place speaking English, and the tooth to tattoo ratio was about 5:16. Nothing in Reno even comes close.

The Silver Nugget is bad. There was a gang killing in there about a year ago. It's in about the same category as the Western on East Fremont Street, as well as Speedway and Opera House in North Las Vegas.

Diamond's is probably as bad as the Reno-area stores get, with Baldini's a distant second in my opinion. I'll give Bonanza the "honor" of the third-worst rating.

I get a kick out of Diamond's advertising. The theme is something like "Where they treat you like family." Must be one heck of a disfunctional family. About the only time they make the news it's about somebody getting shot or stabbed on the premises.

Oh dang missed the Longhorn! I don't think they have a Craps Table, so really no interest. Being a rather ancient gambler, I can't resist the old "Dive" smelly crummy joints. Brings back memories of my youth, when we all still thought you could win. You know when at midnight all of those "pretty girls" were getting better looking after every drink. Ah..... the smell of cigarette, cigar smoke, beer and vomit......now those were the days!

Yeah, now I just have to go by and sniff the Nevada Palace. Any place that makes Jokers Wild look like the Bellagio I just have to nose.

You know it has been years since I have been in Diamonds in Reno. Think I will stay out of that place. Baldini's you can sneak into in the morning and have a cheap breakfast. Heck, the Bonanza spiffied up with new paint, and new floor, and restaurant a while back. Rail City might be better now that Terribles bought the place, but it ranked right up there as a first class dive.

Biggest "Rat Hole" in Reno, well dang I will have to think that over.

I nominate the Gold dust West in this category.
That place is so rank with smoke that it bothers me in the parking lot.

I recently wrote to the owner and GM at Siena and told them that their air and their clientele were now most akin to the places mentioned in this thread.
Funny thing: they never responded directly. But they did quit sending me the great offers I had been receiving. In return, I have saved several thousand dollars by not playing there.

(I have an itch for Reno!!!)

Heck, I forgot about the old Gold Dust West. Bad even from the Parking Lot! LOL...... I hate to put a ranking on that place as it has been a few years since I have had a chance to sniff the place. I do remember the joint at the time sure looked like a qualified "Rat Hole". I think they rented their rooms there by the hour. Now years ago, that was a very good thing.

I am also getting a hankering for a Reno fix, but have a anniversary coming up in July. The wife is kind of pushing for LV ( Very Old decrepit Beatle Fan) and would like to see LUV at the Mirage. We just have to wait and see.

Dang it.....bring back old Harold Club, the Nevada Club and the real Harrahs!

Harrahs!

Love is really good. I've already set aside a little money to go see it again next year. Also, if your wife is a Beatles fan, she will enjoy the "Fab Four" show at the Planet Hollywood (old Alladdin) in the shopping mall. A live performance by four guys who look and sound very much like the Beatles. (If you recall the National Lampoon Vacation/Vegas movie, some of the kids were standing around the Neon Graveyard. Some Beatles look-alikes were there and the line was "So, you've been together longer than the original Beatles?")

The show lasts about 75 minutes, is live (the guys actually plan and sing) and costs between 25 and 75 dollars. Google "Fab Four +Las Vegas) and you will find tickets.

Hey Jerry....I'm sensing a pattern here. A pattern of odd behavior....AT THE SIENA. Hence: "Siena Odds..."

Two good lookin guys like us, fun lovin and tossin our dough around the casino, get a bunch of freebie offers from the Siena...more than we can even use.

Then each of us has a beef (you with the smoke, me with my car ding when they stonewalled on the security tape review) that's communicated up the chain of command to the General Manager.

PROOF!! No more invites.

Do I detect a common thread here?

I wonder if Barney is aware of this? (Wait, maybe dropping Barney's name is what got my offers dropped in the first place).

Thanks for the information on LOVE and the Fab Four. LOVE looks like in costs about $125 per. Steep, but the wife might really enjoy the show. We still haven't made up are minds on LV or Reno. I will check out Goldstar Events and see if either of the show are discounted.

Thanks again! Yo Man.........over and out

Tickets range from $70 to $150. The best seats are back from the stage (where you can see all of the different action) and are not the most expensive. We sat very high, near the back of a section, and had no complaints at all. I believe our tickets were at the $99 level and were very good.

If you decide to go see it, be sure and look up the story of it on the web. The idea of re-mixing this music almost 40 years later was amazing. The more familiar you are with the Beatles recordings, the more amazed you will be. A really, really good show!

I have a friend in Las Vegas this week. I mentioned to him that reports indicate that the Nevada Palace has to be one of crummiest Casino is Nevada. He called this afternoon and confirms the "Rat Hole" diagnosis. He said it is a amazing joint, where quarters rule. $1 Crap Table with Double Odds. Now that the place has a official "Rat Hole" designation, I just have to get in there and sniff out the joint.

Yes, I believe you are right on target.
C'est la vie, as they say in Puerto Rico Smile

I did just stay there for 2 nights. Played very little and still lost a lot.
Same ol, same ol.

I don't feel much inclined to spend time (and money) there now.
Actually this will save me several thousand dollars a year that I was losing while I justified my comps. I don't miss it.
Even almost all of my favorite staff are gone - most especially the appealing, and very accommodating, cocktail waitresses.

It has greatly reduced the appeal of reno for us. Where we used to go monthly, this was my first trip there since I stayed in Reno for month of December. So, right there, I am about $5,000 ahead.

As far as I am concerned, it is there loss. Makes me wonder if I were to dress down a bit more (is that possible?) and walk in with a glazed look in my eyes, stagger a little, would I get some more enticing offers?

I will say this though. The air was a bit better. The staff was much less accommodating. The Center St Bar (still smoking in violation of the new law IMO) was so crowded and smoky that I did not even visit with Mark, the bartender. He is likely mad at me as I walked by a couple times (enroute to better casinos) and waved at him. First time ever that I did not stay long enough to have Mark mix me a special drink.
If you talk to him, tell him I regret not being able to visit with him.

Later,
Jerry

Try as I might, I could not get the Siena to "gamble" a little and raise the limits on their single zero roulette. It is frustrating since I went through the effort to establish a line of credit with them, and then to say that they will only give me the limits that are in place for everyone.

In so many ways, Reno is locked in the past, with low limits and a mindset that they want the low level players and not really get involved with the higher limit players.

So, even though the Siena might have some more favorable games, they set the limits low enough that you can't really attract the serious players.
