Is there room for a huge, Korea-themed casino in Reno?
Yes; investors are constantly announcing plans for new casinos.

Nah - as Reno Lady pointed out, new casinos are constantly being announced that never materialize.

Sure, as long as the comps aren't paid out in bulk Kimchi.

I dreamt of Reno again last night.
It was, of course, a fantastical version of Reno, bearing little resemblance to reality.

Within view of the downtown was another complex of casinos, of which the primary one was a multi-level shopping, dining, and gaming behemoth. Owned and operated by Koreans, this facility was constructed to look like a monstrous temple.

The downside was that it had recently been closed - reality creeps in, even to the subconscious, I guess.
North of this was yet another casino area, with several casino buildings, and a huge amusement park of some kind. These establishments were still in business.

Thought I'd write it down while I still remember it.
I think my subconscious is telling me to get back to Reno, quick!

Not sure how to vote, but I've noticed that Reno is always having headlines about future casinos that never materialize.

The "boutique" at Fitz's; the Station casino at Mt. Rose; the Beverly Hillbillies Reno/Carson City and now Douglas Cty fiasco; the Station property across from Atlantis; Sam's town south of town; not to mention the lofty plans for whatever casino is sitting at the old MGM site.

Makes me think there are processes at work that shoot the new ideas in the %$#@, unless, like Silver Legacy, the owners are already firmly planted in local politics.

I got an interesting call from a pollster last night with about 40 questions about my casino preferences. Many asked how I would rate the Eldo-SL-CC trio in comparison to other casinos in town, and in comparison to my ideal casino. I thought it might be those three casinos doing some market research, but then he asked how likely I would be to frequent a casino located near downtown but with convenient freeway access. That made me think it might be those folks looking at the area of Keystone and Sixth, just west of the Gold Dust West. I suppose I'll never know.

Well, at least they went to the trouble to ask an actual casino patron.

I'd also bet it was about that Keystone & 6th property, but as Reno Lady pointed out, we'll probably never hear anything about it again, anyway!

The current Kimchi-to-dollar exchange rate floats, but it's hovered around .248 of a pound. If it holds, expect to see the "Kimchi Kasino" hit a non-downtown street corner in Reno soon!

John, you're getting a way better rate than I am!

I want a piece of that action; who's your Kimchi-dollar broker?

I'll have my voice mail call your voice mail.

Since I live in Korea now, and have a Korean wife, I just have to jump in on this one.

I believe MGM in Vegas did a complete REDO of the front because Asians did not like to walk through a mouth of a lion. I also think that Wynn's hired some very well known Feng Shui experts to assist on the layout of the casino.

It makes sense for a new casino in Reno to cater to a certain group. Of course, there would have to be flights into Reno to support it, and at present, I would say there are, by way of Seoul to San Francisco, then up to Reno.

Many Americans have taken to Korean food and Vegatarians love it. A casino that had some of that, and speakers of the language in question might draw in enough to do OK. Remember, many Asians are BIG gamblers, so 1 of them might equal 50 people that come up on gambling busses from Modesto.

I think, while this was only a dream, Reno needs to find its target audience. They seem to want Kyackers, Safari International, etc. but if a certain community felt that Reno was "their" place, it might just do OK. Of course, the casinos in Las Vegas have already figured that out, and do take pretty good care of their guests. When I worked in Taipei, I was amazed at how many of the people I worked with quietly went to Vegas for a week every 6 months. They got full comps at Bellagio, Paris, MGM mostly. They had a great time, lost alot of money and had alot of fun. They were very happy when I gave them some back issues I had with me of "Casino Player" magazine.

One thing holding Reno back is also the low limits, the inability to handle large action. I think LVBEAR has it pegged pretty well that they will do whatever they can to run off bigger players from table games. Reno would have to determine that it is not in the business of penny slots, and they are gambling establishments, and that word gambling cuts both ways, for the customer as well as the club.

So, let me give a plug to the Korean Restaurant down on S. Virginia and Plumb, I will have my Kimchee, Kalbi, Bibimbab, Yukejong and all that when I come into Reno and be happy afterwards to go to the casinos.

Haven't you heard that themed casino's are just " so yesterday"? All those experts from Las Vegas are building non-themed vanilla buildings. They even are calling them yawn names- City Center.

Well, I would probably take a walk through Casino Korea- Reno, but I am not sure about the food. Kimchee? Isn't that the bad smelling cabbage they have to bury in the ground in clay pots?

Now I will throw my vote in for a Swedish casino. I have never had any good lutefisk in Reno. Very Happy

Kimchee is fermented cabbage, somewhat akin to German Sauerkraut I think.

It used to be buried in clay pots for fermentation, but today it is put into special refrigerators that are very precise on humidity and temperature to get the right result.

There are many types of Kimchee, from a water based non spicy white type Kimchee to the more redish color which is seasoned with a pepper paste.

There are many recipes, and so don't be disappointed if one is not to your liking. As far as healthiness goes, I have heard it is very good for you. I am not a big vegatable eater, but Korean veggies are spicy and fun to eat, so I like many types of their food.
