That second story is rather predictable in its tone - "Because of the economy, gamblers are staying away from Reno" - but really, for how long has the economy been "Bad"? Not long enough to start writing epitaphs for everything that isn't jumping.

Reno goes up and down, just like everything else in the country, and news outlets love sad stories like this - I wonder if they'll be writing stories celebrating its comeback once we're through the drought? I won't be holding my breath.

Are the players at the Indian casinos ones who would otherwise have been at Reno? Some, possibly quite a few - but it's not a slam-dunk.

I think a machine wrote that news story; it just changed the dates and names from the early '90's version of the same thing.

The casinos and Reno itself seem to not be learning a thing. I seriously doubt there will be a comeback to celebrate. I'm 2 hours drive from Reno yet I spend more time in Vegas these days. The offers I receive from Reno's casino pale in comparison to what I receive from Vegas. Even considering the cost of a flight, my base costs are less when I go to Vegas.

Well, I didn't venture to guess exactly how long it will take for the comeback - but I agree that those in charge seem not to have a clue.

It may take a long time, but the comeback will take place; the question is whether those in charge will take any action, or just sit back and stare dumbly, as they usually do.

Not!!! Shane is the MAN.

Unfortunately Reno is not Shane. Only two letters (the N and E) are the same.
Really it amazes me that I don't get more/better offers from Reno.
You guys are right. Those in charge in Reno, mostly, don't have a clue as to how best to market their business.

OTOH, after a short visit and much dialogue with various staff members and the GM, I received my first offer in 8 months from the Siena.
So, I'll give them another chance and a few hundred bucks. But, I do not expect miracles.

Dang, they have then gone and destroyed the greatest Gambling Town in the nation. It is unbelievable that the Fitz and the lighst will be gone from one of the best corners in Gambling history. Somebody has really screwed up Reno.

While we still take a few trips a year to Reno, we now head to LV for the Entertainment. Reno just doesn't offer the kind of Entertainment to pull us down anymore. What a shame.

We will be making our normal New Years Eve Run this year, but after 17 straight years, looks like everyone now want to look at LV or Laughlin for 2010.

Come on Reno, get your act together! We have had way toooooo much fun in your Casinos. Don't make us move south!
