Depends on what you want. If you a "mini-Vegas" or "mini-Reno" experience, then South Shore for sure. If you want something more laid back, with smaller casinos and, in my opinion, friendlier dealers, pit crews, etc., then North Shore. Allthough it's been over a year since I've been there, my favorite casino is the Crystal Bay Club. I also enjoy the Tahoe Biltmore, and the Cal-Neva. (My son and his new wife did their honeymoon at the Cal-Neva (the one on the North Shore, not Reno) in July and also loved it.

When I go, I usually spend a day or so on the South Shore. It is very nice and very enjoyable. I just happen to prefer things a little less crowded and a little more laid back, so I stay on the North Shore, and usually play there.

Hope this helpls.

If you're just doing a day trip, go to both (as against trying to decide where to stay). You can get to North Shore by heading west on 80 and going through Truckee, or you can go south on Virgina St. to Mt. Rose Highway and take a scenic trip there.

Be sure and visit Cal-Neva and note the state line that runs through the casino and is drawn through the swimming pool! I can't suggest the Tahoe Biltmore as they have lost a lot in customer service while remodeling their place.

Follow the lake around to the South Shore, parking behind Harrah's and taking the elevators up to the buffet (12th floor I think). The view of the lake from the panoramic windows is beautiful.

Head home via 50 Highway through Carson City, seeing the state's charming grounds at the capitol, which is on the main road. The Fandango is a newer casino loaded with penny slots and a low limit pit ($5). It is on the left just as you turn to go through the town.
