In three weeks, I will be in Reno/Tahoe on my (almost) annual November visit. During this time, I will celebrate a birthday (it's one of the big ones, involving Social Security). I would like to take myself and my friend to a really nice steak house to celebrate the occasion. I'm not certain if we will be on the North Shore, South Shore, or in Reno on that day, but would be interested in getting opinions and recommendations for all three places.

Price is not the primary consideration for this meal. Quality and presentation are far more important.

Thanks in advance,

llk

Personally I really enjoy Bimini.
The first time I went there I was completely blown away by the taste/quality of the prime rib I ordered.
Second and third visits were not as good, but I would still rank them highly. Its not that the last visits were not good, they just were not as good as the first.
Bimini is located in the Peppermill, as part of the new Tuscan remodel.
Sorry I cant comment on any of the other towns.
I think GSR has Charlie Palmers, which is supposed to be pretty good.

Thanks! I'll put it on the list for consideration.

If you happen to be on the north shore, I would recommend the Lone Eagle Grill at the beach at the Hyatt Regency, Incline Village. You can start the evening having a cocktail out by the fire pit and listen to the strolling guitar player and watch the sunset over the Lake. Move inside for a great meal. I have only had the steak there one time (I seldom eat steak), and it was very good. Every meal was a wonderful expierence. They have a huge wine list too.

Directly across Virginia St from the Peppermill is Ruby River Steakhouse. I haven't eaten there for a few years, but when I did, it was always excellent!

Thanks! It looks like we may have to make this a two or three night event, rather than just one. We can have a pre-birthday dinner, a birthday dinner, and a post-birthday dinner.

It appears that I will be getting heavier, as well as older.

I have not been to the Ruby, but if the taste is comparable I can almost guarantee it will be a bit lighter on the old wallet.

As I recall, the prices were a little high, but not bad enough to keep us away. As one of my friends said, "It's not a place to take your mistress".
