A couple of recent announcements may be of interest to those planning trips in a few months, nothing imminent:

Harrah's Reno will be closing Cafe Napa in the next few weeks, to be replaced as soon as possible by a new Hash House a Go Go. This restaurant has a strong following at its 3 restaurants on the strip in Las Vegas and in Los Angeles. No word on the exact opening date, AFAIK.

Away from downtown, Famous Dave's BBQ has announced the coming of its first northern Nevada location, at Kietzke and US 395. There's a job fair next week, so opening can't be too far off. I'm not sure of the exact location, but there are a couple restaurants in the area that have always been on shaky footing, so I'm guessing they're moving into an existing operation.

Dave's is a true success story of Indian gaming, receiving its initial financing from proceeds of the Lac Courte Oreilles tribal casino outside Hayward, Wisconsin about a dozen years ago. I visited the first location when it was the only one, and never foresaw the success it has become. It was just a comparatively nice little restaurant on the shores of Round Lake, out in the middle of nowhere. Wish I would have invested then!! Opening is sometime early Spring.

I've been to the Hash House in Vegas three times... I LOVE that place. Have the Andy's Hand Hammered Pork Tenderloin. It's a really, really big peice of pork flattened, breaded and fried. It is laid on a bed of horseradish mashed potatoes, covered with a honkin' slice of cheese (I am from Wisconsin, you know) and a congac glaze.

The best part is that when I go to Reno in May, I am staying at Harrahs!

Woo-HOO!

Oh Thank God! Cafe Napa is one of the worst things in Reno... <grin>

Cafe Napa does serve a mean Eggs Benedict though, and the Mongolian beef isn't half bad either.

Yeah, but for a quick trip to Peg's Glorified, you can get Eggs Bene in several variations, including one with blackened salmon....yum!
