There have been several reports in the local news lately about plans to redesign the downtown arch. The topic apparently got started when Mayor Schieve inadvertently made a comment that the idea should be discussed. She didn't say it should be redesigned, only that the idea was worth some public discussion. Personally, I think it should stay and the city should put more focus on developing the plaza over the train trench and taking out the abandoned motels across from Circus Circus. The "all we need is a new Arch" argument rather reminds me of the last gasps of some old school casinos....just before they folded.

I can just see the Douglas family execs talking to some "consultant" about how to attract more tourists to the old "COMSTOCK". For years, dealers, bartenders, keno runners even the pit bosses wore their own Western wear and had a nice casual theme.

When I saw the purple sequined vests.... I knew their days were numbered.

If Reno wants to dress up Virginia Street, how about getting the pan handlers, bums and skate boarding beggars off the street?

THAT would help a lot more than a bunch of dough dropped on a new arch.
