OK, Stan and others.
Anyone care to take up the creative task of writing (or rewriting) a Reno related Christmas poem or carol? Here's my first couple of attempts;

Song of Reno - Christmas Edition

Hark, the Harold's Club waitresses sing,
Glorious, the progressive's ring!
Peace and mirth, the tokens piled,
OMG, it's deuces wild!

Joyful all ye drunken guys,
Had a snootful, side of fries.
Coins and bills fall from the skies!

Then the slot club host exclaims,
Dice are thrown @ table games.
Hark, the Harold's Club angels sing,
Glorious, the progressive's ring!

Little Town of Reno

Oh, biggest little town of Reno,
Oh, how my wallet cries!
Across the street fair Shooter's lies,
That's where my drunk friend beat up some guys!*

* (It was self defence)

Boy, that's a tall order, but who can resist a challenge? I've never been very good at rearranging existing masterpieces, despite my stated affinity for bombast - so this will have to do; I'm just looking for a gentleman's "C":

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the neon is so delightful
And since we're in Re-no
Let it glow, let it glow, let it glow

It doesn't show signs of stoppin'
And the slots will sure be a-poppin'
The lights are (never) turned way down low
Let it glow, let it glow, let it glow

When we finally drink goodnight
How I hate going back to the room
But if you really pay off right (Super 7, I'm talking to you!)
I'll stay right here and have no gloom

But my bankroll is slowly dying
And the local girl is now goodbye-ing
But as long as I'm in Reno
Let it glow, let it glow, let it glow

Brilliant Stan! Love it!

I've always said there's nothing quite so inviting as a warm casino on a cold winter's night. Thanks for rising so admirably to the challenge!

"Brilliant"? Hardly! But thanks for the praise! I like your rounds, too...but this thread is a big responsibility, and it looks like it's just the two of us...I'd really like to hear John's and JD's versions, for example!

I agree and as moderator, I have decided, It's now a requirement for all VisitReno Forum members to submit a poem within the next two weeks. Or else! ... or ... well, maybe Santa won't be sliding down your chimney with a big bag full of funbooks!! So gather round all ye poets of Reno and, with the muses, sing the praises of the our Biggest Little City.

Spdmrcht ... I haven't forgotten about Jingle Bell Rock. Still turning that one over in my mind.

So, this is what Visit Reno has come to? Poetry. I am worried about that --OR ELSE- , so here is goes.
~~~~
Roses are Red
Violets are Blue
I like Reno
And so do you.
Well, that was terrible, so I will try another:
~~~~~~~~~~~~

One time I had a bad toe
So, I decided to head to Reno
It was not much fun
As I never won

Well, this poem is going no where
So, I think I will stop and go eat a pear.

Very Happy Very Happy P.U. That was Bad.

One more try:
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
There is a hole in all my pockets
No more money do they hold
My hands can not go any deeper
Trying to protect them from the cold
I have about 8 dollars
Hidden and stuffed inside my boot
I got it from a Reno pawn shop
~~~~~~~
I will bow my head to those with better poetry skills. Obviously I have none. Sad

Thanks CaSwede,
I forgot to mention in my qualifier that these were supposed to be Christmas and Reno themed poems (or songs). So you get past the post on a legal technicality. Your first poem is profoundly true. I like the second one as it offers an all new reason to head for Reno. (One of my toes is looking kinda poorly). The third reads like a tragic trip report. (Brought tears to my eyes.)

Jackpot Bell Rock

Jackpot bells, jackpot bells, jackpot bells rock,
Jackpot bells ring and jackpot bells ding.
Glowin' and bestowin' those bushels of cash,
Don't drop that cash-out ticket in the trash!

What a bright sign, it's the right time,
To bet the night away.
Jackpot bell time is a swell time,
To go sliding to the cashier 'n get paid!

O Reno night
The dice are sprightly flying
'tis is the night that I'll hit the Fire bet
Meanwhile my wife, for Vegas she is pining
Til I appeared with a handful of loot
The thrill of victory and the wife rejoices
For yonder breaks a day in all the shops
"Give, me the money"
"You didn't think you'd keep it?"
"The money is mine"
"O money, I love you so"
"The money is mine"
"O money, the money is mine"

(And, because I love the Josh Groban version, here is the rarely heard Verse 2)

Chained to the bed
Like a slave that killed another
And in His Name, I begged that she cease
I just had asked to keep some of my money
But she refused and swore His Holy name
"Christ, I am bored"
"With you begging for money"
"Go to Hell, to Hell"
"Tonight, while I spend the dough"
"You'll stay, chained tooooooooo the bed"
"To that G*ddamned bed, tonight"

Just when I thought I had destroyed VisitReno.com with my Namby-Pamby Reno Christmas poet's corner thread ... BOOM!!! Mjames1229 Yankovic hits us with a masterpiece! I played Josh Grobin's version in another tab and followed your lyrics along. A much needed laugh! Thanks MJames!

All credit where it's due, even to those who claim to have no poetry skills - great job, everyone!
