Hey everybody, I just got the opportunity to take a couple of days off, so I'm going back to Reno and Mammoth Lakes and the Peppermill July 19-22...anybody know of any events or anything else going on that weekend? I really lucked out, when I called the Peppermill, I am now up to getting casino rate on rooms (moving on up, beforehand I was only getting the Sizzle offer) and got a good deal on the Imperial Suite I missed out on back in January.

Alison, I will take some photos since I got re-routed on my last trip, or will you have already gone by then?

John, I will definitely call and will be hanging out at Shooter's! After seeing all the excitement here on the board (and BC Dave's avatar) I gotta go check it out...

Also, can anyone give an estimate of how many points you need at Harrahs these days to get the free room offers (2 free nights for Harrahs & Harveys Lake Tahoe)? On my January trip, I started out with nothing and now have 120 points. They haven't sent anything but my friend in Mammoth Lakes has gotten free room offers every month since then and only played about $50. In the past, I've gotten them by playing about $75. I may be cruising into Stateline for an afternoon or so just to get my play levels up because right now nobody's sending anything...the Horizon called and told me they can't send any more coupons until I play about $20 more, so that's close. Montbleu finally bugged off with their "come back to us" stuff and I'd never go back there anyway. So that just leaves Harrahs & Harveys (minus the debit card) & The Lakeside. Gotta get the comps lined up for vacation in January if I'm still here in FL!

Floridagambler- thanks for the warning that you are coming back. Laughing There is always a party going on at South Shore Tahoe. As far as # of points for free rooms at Harrah's and Harvey's, who knows for sure. They have a very secretive formula taking into account: games played, length of time played, denomination and how much you ogle the cocktail waitress. Confused I put through about $5K in video poker at Harvey's earlier this year, and the only mail I got was for free rooms in Reno (I have never put my card in their machines ever!) Keep in mind also that your points expire after only 6 months with no activity at Harrah's.

Sure seems to me like the Horizon is the best place to give some action.

FG,
Looks like you will be beating me to the Pep. We dont leave until the 28th of July. That would be great if you were abel to get any pics. Thanks for offering.

As for harrhas, I have not been to tahoe now in 2 years. When i stayed there, i did not play a whole lot. I probably ran a few thousand thru the machines. They have been sending me free room offers ever since. As far as harrahs Reno, i dont play a whole lot there either. A little birdie swoops in every 6 months and plays on my card so i dont loose my points. Wink I still get offers rom them as well. usually if i try to book the Reno rooms though, they always come up unavailable.

Good Luck on your upcoming trip. Im jelous your going to beat me there!!!

Hey Alison!

I will be sure to snap some photos...I guess I should've just looked at your ticker to see when you're going! Nice ticker, by the way, and thanks again for hooking me up with the Pep's "5555 Number" some time back - I haven't had any problems communicating with them since then.

Yeah, the whole Harrah's setup seems weird. Maybe I will benefit by just going and playing a few dollars like my friend did. And like you and CaSwede mentioned, when I did get offers, 2 free nights in Reno was always there in addition to Tahoe (and sometimes the Rio in Las Vegas) but I've never stuck a card in at any of these other places so I guess that's just how they roll...

Now, I was just on the Pep's website getting the low-down on the expansion. It says in 2008 they are starting the remodel of the tower, but it looks like they're doing it up with the same theme as the new Tuscan tower. Oh no! Does that mean all the velour, neon, black lacquer, and the trippy Battlestar Galactica carpet will all be gone? I hope not... Like one user on TripAdvisor said, "The 70's came and went, but the Peppermill decided to stay!" I think they should keep it that way, or at least part of it, that's what makes it unique.

Thanks for the info and I will be sure to take some more photos and videos.

FG,
Yeah they should be starting the remodel of the tower rooms. i am kind of excited for them actually. I found this pic on the Pep site, this is what they are going to be remodelling the rooms to look like.....

Looks pretty nice. I forgot i gave you that number. What kind of rate did they give you for your upcoming stay? Is it alot better then what is on the site?

Looking forward to seeing your pics.

Ali

Hey Alison,

The rate they gave me actually seems to be a pretty good deal, seeing as how the "casino rate" at 5 or 6 other places I'm a member at is usually only about $5 below their internet rates. For a corner Imperial Suite on a high floor (let's hope they pull through), they are giving me $179 for Thursday, and $199 for Fri & Sat. These rates are about $50 less per night than what's on their site, which said that Fri & Sat were completely sold out.

I'm going to have a massive machine session and am hoping to get out of Purple level and at least up to Bronze. (Any others of course would be nice too). They even told me I need to get on out of being a Purple member.

If you're interested, they just posted my videos from my January trip on TripAdvisor, from the Pep and Mont-poo in Tahoe. I still have to submit my review of the Peppermill to them so I think I'm going to wait until I get back to do it so I can upload photos of 2 different room types. The link is:

Well thats good then. I just can't imagine paying that much for a room. Yikes!!

Thats funny, they told you you need to get out of being a purple member? Well i hope you win some to keep playing and get bumped up. I don't think i will ever get past Gold. The next level is nearly impossible to get to unless your one of those gambling locals who goes in there every week. Smile

FL, what kind of games do you play at Harrahs. If you're playing VP they'll want you to put more coin thru.

But if you got 120 tier pts playing slots, I'm surprised you didn't get any offers. I've played on hubbys card and got 200-300 tier points/day and this generated a lot of offers. They do seem to like a few hours of play though, so if you can try to play at least 3-4 hours/day, I think this would start the marketing machine.

Be sure to stop by the TR desk and ensure they have your correct address and you're accout is coded to receive mail. Ask them some questions about what they're looking for. Hopefully they may be able to give you some advice.

Honestly Harrahs is discussed alot on another Vegas board and they're a big mystery to everyone...LOL

Allison,

Thanks for the photo, I'm too lazy to go to the Pepp's site...LOL

I think those rooms look awesome and can't wait to try them out. Once everything's complete I'll prolly give the Pepp more play and stay away from Harrahs.

floridagambler,on the gotorenotahoe.com website they have the Imperial Suite available for $119 (Thurs.), and $169 (Fri. & Sat.) The Peppermill has a "Best Rate Guarantee" where they will match a third party websites rates as well as give you an additional 20% off . You don't have to actually book on gotorenotahoe.com, but you do have to fill out a "Best Rate Guarantee" claim form within 24 hrs. of booking with the Peppermill to be eligible for the guarantee. I've used gotorenotahoe.com before without any problems; if you are paying for rooms in Reno and/or Tahoe their rates are usually pretty good. Have fun in Reno and Mammoth Lakes.

Embarassed <feeling suckered!>

Darlinerene-

Thanks SO much for pointing that out! I'll investigate it and totally didn't think about looking there but this is quite cheaper. I've used bookrenotahoe in the past, and they are actually the people that do the ski packages at the Peppermill. I got a really good deal on a Spa Suite on my January trip which included major discounted room (although it was on a weekend and still paid $150 per night) and lift tickets. Problem was that the Pep treats them as a standalone company and that led to problems at check-in (ie the idiot couldn't find the reservation package but 45 minutes later he discovered it was right under his hand the whole time) and I couldn't apply any of my comps towards the room stay, only for food and liquor (which I took advantage of, not sure when I was coming back but pigged out good!). They treated the thing as a whole separate entity almost, bookrenotahoe has separate phone and reservation confirmation numbers. But since I wouldn't be booking with them, I guess that wouldn't matter.

I just checked the Best Rate Guarantee at the Pep and it says the offer is only valid if you book directly on the Pep's website (where the room was sold Fri & Sat and much more expensive than the casino rate) so I booked through the VIP hotline or whatever it's called. Also, it was 2 days ago...oops! I'm gonna call and find out because saved money is saved money...I suppose I could cancel my reservations and do the whole thing over and take advantage of it but I'm afraid I'll lose the room (that happened last time and the VIP lady said they only had a few of the Imperials left). I'll let you know how it works out. Thanks again!

Alison -

Yeah I'm going large this time but hopefully I'll get some of it back...I can't use my Sizzle Offer because of the dates and this happens every year, that little period when nobody's sending anything and you gotta go play to get it all started again. (plus my brain is fried...too much work!) The lady at the Pep was pointing out that I've been at the Purple level for like 2 1/2 years hahaah ("Play play play!" she said). I hear you about it taking a long time, it took 3 1/2 years for me to get to Gold Level at the Station Casinos in LV (and that's only the second level!)

ErinInSD -

Nice Avatar!!! At Harrah's I usually just do slots and sometimes craps. The play for 3-4 hours thing is what I was lacking last trip, basically just went over there to get drinks cause everywhere else was lame! so maybe that's why. I'll definitely stop by Total Rewards at some point, they've always been helpful in the past. I was only in Harrah's Reno once, for about 15 minutes a couple years back.

Hey, has anybody heard about the Angora Fire by South Lake? God bless those people. Harrahs sent me an email to let me know the casinos in Tahoe are open. The Gondola at Heavenly was shut down for a couple of days but it's back on tomorrow.

Thanks everybody,
