And if you go to THIS newly discovered site:
http://visitreno.com/
You'll see a box labeled: " Helpful off-site Links: "
click on the first link called, "Nevada Max":
http://nevadamax.com/
Max is a sometimes poster on this board and an ace photographer.
I especially like his eye for the out of the way Nevada places.
Lots of good stuff on that Main Site. |

Nice shot, John. You even included that wonderful little Sierra Spirit. I hear they have free wireless broadband. |

Nice Pic, but it brings up a questions for our reno locals on these boards
Has Reno ever thought of closing off Virginia St and just making it a pedestrian mall in the downtown area? |

I think it was considered when they revamped Virginia Street last year, but they decided instead to just narrow the street and make the sidewalks wider. It used to be four lanes going through downtown. Now it's just three lanes, one in each direction and a center left turn lane. They're hoping that more traffic will take the one-ways on either side (Sierra going south and Center going north) to reduce Virginia Street traffic.
The next thing on the horizon is the design of the plaza over the train trench. If they ever get around to it, that is. |

This is indeed a nice picture - now, is that fence-looking stuff on the right the remains of the closed walkway to the Fitz?
I guess if they replace it with something fun, it'll be better in the long run - still, I have a soft spot for that walkway - what are they going to do with all those pictures and artifacts that were on display there??

Thats a good question Hawk. Not sure. That area though was completely torn apart. Maybe they are just remodeling it?

I believe so. Now that the train trench is completed there isn't any need for the overpass. There was an article in the paper a few months back reporting that Fitzgerald's, in true capitalist fashion, expects to sell the useless eyesore to the city for several million taxpayer dollars, so the city can then cover the cost of demolition. I haven't heard any follow up on that so I don't know the current situation. If the overpass were to stay, it would get in the way of the still to be planned plaza over the trench. |
