We usually go the vegas route 3 or 4 times a year but it was time for a change. Got an excellent deal in air and hotel for june at the Peppermill. Any info we could receive on hotel or area would be handy. We will be renting a car for the week. We are primarily Blackjack and craps players don't really like slots that much. Also how about the weather around the first week in june.. Thanks Very Happy

Hi Snickers!

Here are my favorite Hotels. Peppermill, Atlantis which are both south of the downtown Casino Area. Downtown we like the Elodrado.

Best place to play Craps and BJ Siena Hotel Casino downtown. 10 Times Odds, and probably the highest in Reno. You might check out the Seina Hotel for rooms as many people say they are really nice.

Best place find low limit games #1 Western Village east of downtown in Sparks, Nv. $2 BJ and $1 Craps.

The Steak House at the Western Village is very good, at reasonable prices.

Weather in June should be outstanding and rather warm.

Have a great trip, and leave just a little money for me to gather up on my next trip.

Yo Man.....over and out..........

A lot depends on your individual preferences which you didn't mention, so I will stick to generalities. You could probably spend the entire week at the Peppermill without ever leaving the place if you wanted. With 10 restaurants and as many different bars, plus the gambling, lounge, sports book etc. there's plenty to do. One concern I would have is that their pool might not be ready by early June, if a pool is important to you. Their web site says the pool will be complete by Spring/Summer, which might be June and might not. The way it looks right now I would say later rather than sooner. They are incorporating their existing pool into the expansion, however, so there is the possibility of finishing that area first so it can be used while the construction continues around it.

Weather in early June will probably be great. Look for sunny skies, highs in the 80's, maybe a little bit of wind. But plan for cooler weather too. Because of the altitude and proximity to the mountains it cools off a lot at night, and it's usually cooler at Lake Tahoe than in the valleys.

If you want to get out of the casino, just a block behind the Peppermill property is Virginia Lake Park, which is a nice place to take a walk and stretch your legs after you've sat at the tables too long. Downtown you should check out the river walk. From Virginia Street go upstream for a couple blocks to Wingfield Park where you can watch the kayakers and swimmers in the whitewater park before stopping at one of the bars in the area for a few refreshments. I would suggest Silver Peak Brewery (just north of the river on Sierra St.), Amendment 21 Sports Bar (3 blocks south of the river on Virginia) or Imperial Lounge (1 block north of the river on Arlington). All have good drinks, good food and a good atmoshpere when you want to get away from the casinos. Also in the area is Peg's (3 blocks south of the river on Sierra), one of the most popular breakfast restaurants in town. Expect it to be busy on weekends.

The "must do" road trips would include a day in Virginia City and a day (or two) around Lake Tahoe. We usually take visitors to Tahoe by going through Carson City and then to Stateline to visit the south lake casinos. Then we stop at a beach on the southeast side of the lake before going to Incline Village and over the Mount Rose highway for the twisty-turny descent back into Reno. You could also continue past Incline Village around the lake, which would allow you to visit the north lake casinos at Crystal Bay but they're nothing special.

The west side of the lake is more scenic but a longer trip. It does have the advantage of allowing you to visit Truckee, which is a very nice little tourist trap with several good restaurants, bars and souvenir shops. Just west of Truckee is the Donner Memorial commemorating that party's infamous demise. If you take the north lake route mentioned earlier you will also come pretty close to Truckee.

A trip to Pyramid Lake is also very scenic, but entertainment there is strictly "do it yourself." Aside from the lake, there's not much there but a restaurant and gas station.

Most blackjack in Reno is single deck, double down on 10 or 11 only, dealer hits soft 17. You can find single deck, double on any first two cards at Siena, Fitzgerald's, Boomtown and Rail City and maybe Western Village. LVBear who posts here says Fitzgerald's is unplayable for the card counter but I don't think that would matter much to the basic strategy player. There are currently decent two deck games at Cal Neva and Grand Sierra, though the limits and availability might change by summer. Peppermill sometimes has a two deck game, double on any. Most table minimums are $5. You might find $3 tables at Siena, Cal Neva and Western Village, but again that could change depending on the traffic. Circus Circus also sometimes has lower limits. Beware of 5:6 stupid-jack games at Eldorado, Silver Legacy and Harrah's, though as the sheep willingly line up to be sheared it is spreading to other casinos as well.

Siena is the only place in town with 10X odds on craps. Most tables are $5 minimum. Depending on the traffic you will sometimes find $3 limits but they may disappear as summer heats up and more tourists arrive.

All of Peppermill's restaurants are very good. Most of the other casino's restaurants live up to expectations as well. There are lots of non-casino eateries around town also, some great, some not so good.

If you have specific questions please post them. People on this board are pretty helpful.

Many vegas veterans do not like Reno (especially those that prefer the vegas strip environment)

you will love reno if you do not expect dancing water fountains, fancy shows, eiffel towers, 5-star hotels and restaurants, etc. etc.)

what you will find is excellent comps, great blackjack, great VP and a city more geared to gambling than entertaining.

Thanks for the info. We really have no preferences to speak of. We need to get away from Vegas as we hate the strip atmosphere now and we usually stay downtown. In my opinion they have ruined the town with the mega resorts and overpriced shows. You can thank Celine Dion for that.
Plus it is almost impossible to find decent BJ rules anymore most strip games are 6 to 5 but the fools flock to play plus 5 dollar games are almost non-exixtant. We like to kill time sightseeing so your suggestions will be weel taken. As I said earlier we will be at the Peppermill all week but we rarely spend all our time at one place we like to spread the wins Laughing around or is that losses. Mad . As for card counting we used to be pretty good at it. But the effort it takes compared to the win ratio is just not worth it so basic stratgedy it is. Everyone have a Happy Eastet Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I couldn't agree more. I live in Las Vegas, but make fourteen or fifteen annual trips to Reno. My motto: Las Vegas -- A great place to live, but I wouldn't want to visit.
