Some who know me have pointed out this line: "Since 2002, the county has consistently ranked high in the heavy drinking category."

I keep telling them that the fact that we moved here in 2002 is only a coincidence!!

The survey is inaccurate because it was done when Jerry and Hawk were in town.

As Stan informed us recently, every 12 months we are treated to yet another:
HOPPY NEW BEER!!!!!!!

Speaking of which: I recently sampled a beer or 12 from the new micro brewer in Reno: Buckbean.
Liked both the beers I tasted. Both the orange and the Black.
Of the two, I preferred the Black Noddy.

Thanks for the plug, Hawk - while the thread is on such a delicious topic, I'd have to note that I've tried neither of the ones you mentioned, but am interested in just how "Orange" that orange one is.

In my humble years of experience, I'd have to say that "Orange" is close enough to "Red" such that I'd tend to find the two equivalent, and the "Red" family of beers just doesn't bring me a lot of joy. Sure, one of them makes you feel like some upscale-metropolitan-hipster-connoisseur, but if you extend it to two, three, or more, you acquire an unpleasant, over-foggy, viscous haze - as though you were drinking alcoholic maple syrup, or something.

Never really cared for it, at least in any sort of quantity - but I'm always curious to hear about new beers, tastings, visits to Brews Brothers, and whatever else comes out of the tap.

Carry on!

Mmmmmm ..... alcoholic maple syrup!

Actually Buckbean has some very good varieties. They have a tasting room at the brewery in Sparks, and its available at many of the trendier local bars, and I think in some grocery stores. I haven't noticed it in the casinos yet, but it might be in some. Casinos seem to have their own special deals with certain distributors and it's hard for a small independent to gain a foothold.

Thanks for the tip!

Brewery...tasting room...right off McCarran? I may just have to make a detour there next time I'm in the area - that might be more fruitful than those funny little casinos I've only distantly heard of which I drive by, gawk at, but hardly ever go into.
