Sparks Local Instantly Wins $36,979 Playing Quest for Cash at John Ascuaga’s Nugget |
The day started like any other for Elizabeth French and her husband: loyally stop at John Ascuaga’s Nugget for slots, bingo and some lunch. Only today, things took an unexpectedly prosperous turn. French became the next instant winner in the Quest for Cash swipe and win promotion. The retired Sparks, Nev., resident won $36,979.22!
“It’s a lot of money,” said French, who in the past had won comparatively smaller $1,000 to $2,000 jackpots. “We’ve lived here for 30 years and we’ve been coming to the Nugget for 30 years. We’re in here every day.”
French wasn’t sure what would become of her winnings, although her husband was making a concerted case to buy a new car, something to replace their 19-year-old vehicle. However, their immediate plans were unchanged, despite the Quest for Cash instant win.
“We’re sticking to our routine. We’re going to play bingo, play some slots and have some lunch,” she said.
French joins area residents Pat Dugger, who instantly won more than $40,000, and Viola Gomez, who won nearly $36,000, recently in the Quest for Cash instant swipe and win game. John’s Club members can continue to play Quest for Cash, as it was reset following today’s jackpot. By using their player’s club card to swipe and play, guests can win a share of $1,000,000, including instant prizes of cash, dinners, shows, gifts and more. In addition, all players are invited to the monthly free $20,000 game-show style drawing. The next one is scheduled for May 17 at 7 p.m. in the Casino Cabaret area.

POP ICON RINGO STARR AND HIS ALL STARR BAND ROCK RENO BALLROOM, FRIDAY JULY 25 |
Ringo Starr, the British pop icon and former Beatle, brings a taste of Liverpool to the Reno Ballroom. Starr touts his latest album “Liverpool 8” on his whirlwind summer tour hitting The Biggest Little City July 25 at 8pm.
On January 15, 2008, Starr released “Liverpool 8,” his first new album with Capitol/EMI since 1974's “Goodnight Vienna.” After decades of writing music and lyrics to award-winning albums, Starr continues his artistic journey, co-writing all of the 12 original tracks on Liverpool 8. “The writing of the records is always the same," Ringo explains. "It's the same group of guys and we all sit together and write about what's happening."
Starr adds that as time goes on there is more and more of his personality in his music; his candor, wit and soul are evident in the lyrics and the heartbeat of every song on “Liverpool 8.” In one song, Starr belts, “I always followed my heart and I never missed a beat.” Peace and love are Ringo Starr's primary life messages and “Liverpool 8” propels this universal mantra in each of its evocative songs; imbued with joy, insight, reflection and wisdom from the music icon the world knows and loves simply as 'Ringo.'
Starr’s music, both as a solo artist and as a Beatle, transcends time, trends and style. His exceptional musicianship and classic performances bring fans songs they all know and love, including "With A Little Help From My Friends," "Don't Pass Me By," "Photograph," "It Don't Come Easy," "You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful And You're Mine)," "Don't Go Where the Road Don't Go," "The No No Song" and "Never Without You."
In a career spanning nearly five decades, the former Beatle has enjoyed a successful and dynamic solo career as a singer, songwriter, drummer, musical collaborator and actor. Drawing inspiration from classic blues, soul, country, honky-tonk and rock 'n' roll, Starr continues to play an important role in modern music.
In 1970, Starr released his first solo record entitled “Sentimental Journey,” a sentimental record capturing the music he grew up with. Starr's passion for creating music continued to propel him forward, and in 1971 he began his unprecedented run as the first solo Beatle to score seven consecutive Top 10 singles, starting with the release of "It Don't Come Easy," with a B-side of "Early 1970," followed by his second hit single, "Back Off Boogaloo"/"Blindman" in 1972. In 1973, Starr released his self-titled smash hit “Ringo,” yielding three Top 10 singles, including the #1 hits "Photograph"/"Down and Out" and "You're Sixteen (You're Beautiful And You're Mine)"/"Devil Woman."
In 1981, Starr recorded his most critically acclaimed record since “Ringo,” “Stop and Smell the Roses,” later followed by a hits collection, “Starr Struck: The Best Of Ringo Starr, Vol. 2,” in 1989.
Starr released some of the best records of his career in the 1990s, finding consistent success touring with his revolving All Starr Band. The tour met with great success, producing Starr's first live album, “Ringo and His All Starr Band,” released in 1990. "I've said this over and over again, but I love being in a band," says Starr. After several incarnations of Starr’s All Starr Band, the icon celebrated more than a decade of All Starr tours with the release of “Ringo and His All Starr Band: The Anthology, So FarÉ.”
Starr brings his show to the Reno Ballroom Friday, July 25 at 8pm. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 888-288-1833 and online at downtownreno.com or ticketmaster.com. Tickets are also available at Circus Circus’ Main Cashier’s Cage, the Eldorado Showroom Box Office and Silver Legacy’s Box Office. Ticket prices are $95, $80, $70 and $50.
Ringo Starr at the Reno Ballroom is part of the 13th annual Artown festival, July 1 – 31, 2008. The month-long summer arts festival features more than 350 events produced by more than 100 cultural organizations and businesses in locations citywide, with major funding provided by the City of Reno.

‘Finally Lucky’ Area Resident Instantly Wins $35,703 Playing Quest for Cash at John Ascuaga’s Nugget |
A couple years ago, Viola Gomez and a friend opened a bar of chocolate. And they couldn’t understand why the writing on the candy itself was different than usual. You see, they didn’t know the candy company was conducting a $1 million dollar promotion. Turns out, the strange looking bar was the grand prize winner. But by the time they realized that important fact, well, the candy bar had met its fate.
“Just not lucky, ever, I guess,” said Gomez, a Hungry Valley, NV., resident.
Gomez’ luck changed in a big way on Friday, as the 22-year-old became the next instant winner in the Quest for Cash promotion at John Ascuaga’s Nugget. The middle of five siblings won $35, 703.27!
“I was in shock. I’m still in shock,” Gomez said. “At first I thought it was, at most, maybe $5,000. The game told me to go to the cashier and they told me it was $35,000. I couldn’t believe it. I’m usually not a lucky person. I never win anything. I guess I’m finally lucky!”
Born and raised in the Reno area, Gomez wasn’t sure what exactly to do with the money. Her current aspirations include checking out the Job Corps, and she said she might use some of the winnings to buy a car or further her education, along with “definitely putting some in the bank.”
Gomez joins area resident Pat Dugger, who instantly won more than $40,000 recently in the Quest for Cash game. John’s Club members can continue to play Quest for Cash, as it was reset following today’s jackpot. By using their player’s club card to swipe and play, guests can win a share of $1,000,000, including instant prizes of cash, dinners, shows, gifts and more.

BROOKS & DUNN BRINGS “COWBOY TOWN” TO THE BIGGEST LITTLE CITY |
One of country’s biggest duos is set to turn the Biggest Little City into Cowboy Town! This summer, Brooks & Dunn brings their rowdy, raucous show to the Reno Events Center on Saturday, June 7 at 8pm. After nearly two decades of country hits, Grammy’s, Country Music Awards and over thirty million album sales, Kix Brooks and Ronnie Dunn continue to set the standard in the country music industry.
The duo started their smash career in 1991 with the debut album, “Brand New Man.” Now, twelve albums later, Brooks & Dunn is selling out arenas around the world with its latest hit album, “Cowboy Town.” “We came from pretty blue-collar backgrounds, so you had to dream some lofty dreams,” says Ronnie Dunn about the emotional momentum that drives “Cowboy Town.”
Those lofty dreams are now reality and define the premise behind “Cowboy Town.” Despite what its title may suggest, the album is not about rodeo cowboys or the inhabitants of a mythical West. The disc’s first single, “Proud of the House We Built,” yet another smash in a career of more than twenty #1 singles, reflects on love, determination and the duo’s “weather the storm” attitude.
“Cowboy Town” expla ins, a cowboy – or a cowgirl, for that matter, as the record “Cowgirls Don’t Cry” makes clear – is anyone who gets up and stands tall after taking a hit. Anyone, in other words, who weathers the storm. It’s an attitude that Dunn says takes shape where “the Rolling Stones meet the cowboys out there across America and everywhere else.” The rocking title track sounds that way too – a muscular, uplifting blend of country and rock & roll.
Ronnie Dunn grew up with a mother who clung to her Bible and a father who was into hard-hitting honky tonk music. With a choice to pick either school or playing in beer joints, Dunn set out to chase the music. Landing in Tulsa, the quiet bass player quickly became a local force to be reckoned with as a genuine country singer. Meanwhile, Kix Brooks grew up in Louisiana, where beer joints weren’t temples to country music, but were combustive places where the people came for a party.
Once these two came together, the success never stopped. With over 28 million albums sold, four Entertainer of the Year Awards and a combined 28 Duo of the Year records for the Country Music Association and Academy of Country Music Awards, performances at the Olympics and a Presidential Inauguration, Brooks & Dunn is an undeniable country music phenomenon.
Experience the music of Brooks & Dunn live at the Reno Events Center on Saturday, June 7, brought to you by Circus Circus Reno, Eldorado Hotel Casino, Harrah’s Reno and Silver Legacy Resort Casino. Tickets go on sale March 1 and are available for $95, $75, $65, $55 and $45. Tickets can be purchased by phone at 888-288-1833 or at Circus Circus’ Main Cashier’s Cage, the Eldorado Showroom Box Office or Silver Legacy’s Box Office. Visit downtownreno.com for details or to purchase tickets.
