Village at Northstar ™ presents the Northstar ®Arts and Crafts Festival July 3-5 2009 |
Northstar at Tahoe ™, Calif. - The Village at Northstar ™ plays host to the inaugural Arts and Crafts Festival taking place over the July 4th holiday weekend. This free event will give attendees the opportunity to meet with more than 50 talented artists displaying a wide variety of handmade goods including oil paintings, ceramic vessels, jewelry and much more – Friday, July 3 from 10am-5pm, Saturday, July 4 from 10am-3pm and Sunday, July 5 from Sat · 10am-5pm.
Located on Northstar Drive off of Highway 267 in Truckee at the heart of North Lake Tahoe, the Village at Northstar™ is alive with activity, featuring quaint streets, lively boutique shopping, exciting restaurants and cafes, and luxury residences, providing the perfect setting for an outdoor event.
Among the featured artwork at the Arts and Crafts Festival are wood sculptures by Andre Pohlman of South Lake Tahoe. His uniquely weathered creations are made by turning and hand carving dead roots, branches and other wood debris gathered from the California forests. These once discarded pieces become beautiful wood sculptures, vases, bowls and relief sculptures. Andre explains his guiding influence is the belief that life and form exist within the wood piece and it is up to the carver to bring out the image.
Dirk Yuricich of Stateline, Nevada will be showcasing a variety of photos that feature the Lake Tahoe area, available in a variety of sizes from note cards to large pieces. This self taught photographer uses a 35 mm SLR camera to capture landscape images, wildlife, abstract, travel, photojournalistic and documentary images. Dirk's passion is travel, so travel photography makes up a fairly large portion of the images you will see at the Festival including a collection of beyond-the-average-tourist view of Japan images, a large selection of Ecuador and Bali photos, a broad spectrum of Europe images, and of course beautiful Lake Tahoe/ mountain images.
Judy and Lawrence Romiti of Incline Village will be showcasing their handspun rugs and tapestries. The Romitis, who share their time between their studios in Lo de Marcos, Nayarit and Incline Village, use material that includes wools of sheep, llama, mohair and alpaca. “All of our creations are durable, reversible, all-natural and earth friendly,” said Lawrence. “We don’t use any dyes and all of our piece are washable.”
Additional artists participating in the Festival include Frances Casey from Mendocino, California who creates wearable art from hand-crafted antique buttons; Chris Efstratis of Sacramento who creates clay vessels of all sizes, some of which stand six feet tall; and Phillip Glashoff of Fairfield, California, who uses found objects to create large and small whimsical metal sculptures.

Inspired by a hot flash and a bottle of wine, Menopause The Musical® has sold out audiences across the country. Billed as “The Hilarious Celebration of Women and The Change®,” the original, off-Broadway musical begins with four women, “Professional Woman,” “Soap Star,” “Iowa Housewife” and “Earth Mother,” at a Bloomingdale’s lingerie sale. These ladies have nothing in common-- but a black lace bra, hot flashes, night sweats, memory loss, chocolate binges, not enough sex, too much sex and day-to-day challenges.
The women share their ups and downs through a collection of 25 re-lyricized baby boomer songs from the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s. Disco hit “Stayin’ Alive” becomes “Stayin’ Awake,” Motown favorite “My Guy” is transformed into “My Thighs,” "The Lion Sleeps Tonight" switches to "In the Guest Room or on the Sofa, My Husband Sleeps at night,” and “Puff The Magic Dragon” becomes the anthem to exercise, Puff, My God I’m Draggin.’”
“We want to bring women together and empower them. This is an event – a happening,” says Kathi Glist, one of the show’s producers. “It resonates with just about any woman over 40, but it is enjoyed by all. And the younger women laugh just as hard,” she adds. “It’s a party every night!”
The show, which has become an international phenomenon was written by Jeanie Linders and is produced by South Florida-based GFour Productions. Menopause The Musical® has been seen by more than Ten million people all over the world since it debuted in a 76-seat perfume-shop-turned-theatre in Orlando, Florida in 2001.
