Free to walk in; you pay for what you eat. Cookers come from across the country to compete for a prize purse, and the square fills with smoke from mid-morning.
It runs straight into the Burning Man exodus and Labor Day weekend, which makes this the tightest hotel week of the year in Sparks. Book early or stay in Reno.
