Whitney Peak Hotel

Downtown's non-gaming, non-smoking hotel, with a climbing wall up the outside of the building and the Arch at the door.

Whitney Peak is the answer for anyone who wants to stay in the middle of downtown Reno and not stay in a casino. It has no gaming floor and it is entirely smoke-free, which in this city is genuinely unusual and is the reason a lot of people choose it.

The exterior of the building carries a climbing wall — one of the tallest artificial climbing structures anywhere — and there is a full bouldering and climbing gym inside. It is a working facility rather than a decoration.

It sits directly at the Reno Arch, which makes it about as central as it is possible to be.

Good for

  • Staying downtown without a casino floor or cigarette smoke
  • Climbers
  • Walking to everything in the core

Worth knowing first

  • No casino, which for some visitors is the point and for others is a reason to look elsewhere.
  • Downtown north of the river is still uneven at night.
