Grand Sierra Resort

The largest property in the city and effectively its own destination — theatre, kart track, driving range, aquatic centre.

The Grand Sierra is the biggest thing in Reno by some distance, and it operates less like a hotel than like a small resort town. Alongside the casino and the rooms there is a theatre that carries much of the city's year-round touring programme, an indoor kart track, a driving range out over the water, and an aquatic centre.

It sits east of downtown on 2nd Street, near the airport and the fairgrounds, and it is not walkable to anything else. That is the standing trade: you get more on one property than anywhere else in the city, and you get nothing outside it.

From 2027 it also becomes the home of Nevada men's basketball, in a new arena on the property — which will make it a significantly bigger part of the city's event calendar than it already is.

Good for

  • Touring acts at the Grand Theatre
  • Keeping a group entertained on one property
  • Being close to the airport

Worth knowing first

  • Isolated. Nothing is within walking distance, and rideshare to downtown is a standing cost.
  • It is very large. Getting from a room to the theatre is a real walk.
