Peppermill Resort Spa Casino

The best resort in Reno, and it is not downtown. Family-owned, Tuscan-themed, with the spa that everyone else is measured against.

The Peppermill is the property most likely to surprise someone who thinks they know what a Reno casino is. It sits on South Virginia Street rather than downtown, it is still family-owned rather than part of a national group, and the Tuscan-themed tower it built in the late 2000s is a genuinely high-end hotel.

Spa Toscana is the reason a lot of people book it — a large, properly run spa with an indoor pool under a domed ceiling, and it is included for tower guests rather than charged per visit.

The catch is the location. You are on an arterial road ten to fifteen minutes from downtown, and stepping outside puts you on South Virginia Street rather than in a district. This is a stay-on-property choice.

Good for

  • The best hotel room in Reno
  • Spa Toscana
  • Staying somewhere that does not feel like a casino corridor

Worth knowing first

  • Not walkable to anything. Budget for rideshares if you plan to be downtown in the evenings.
  • The older sections of the property are considerably plainer than the Tuscan tower. It matters which you book.
