J Resort
The newest property in Reno and the anchor of the Neon Line District — the one downtown casino most visitors have never heard of.
J Resort is the newest casino resort in the city, on the western edge of downtown, and it is the physical centre of the Neon Line District — a long-running attempt to rebuild the blocks between downtown and the university into something worth walking through.
Glow Plaza, its outdoor venue, is the part worth knowing about: an open-air space that runs live music and concerts through the warm months. For a visitor it is one of the few places downtown where a big outdoor show happens outside a festival week.
The rooms are the newest in the casino core, which in a city whose downtown stock is largely 1970s-to-1990s is a genuine differentiator.
Good for
- The newest rooms downtown
- Outdoor concerts at Glow Plaza
- Being walkable to the river and the west side
Worth knowing first
- Older guides and maps still show this block under its previous name, so directions written more than a couple of years ago will not match the signage.
- The Neon Line District around it is still being built. Some of the surrounding blocks are construction or vacant lots.
